Islamabad: Aleema Khan, sister of former Prime Minister and founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan, has demanded clarity from those in power, questioning what it would take for her brother to be released from jail. Speaking to the media outside the Islamabad High Court, Aleema called for an open dialogue instead of behind-the-scenes maneuvering.
“If this is a matter of give and take, then come forward and tell us what Imran Khan needs to surrender for you to release him,” she said. “Who are the forces behind this? Those who drafted the 26th amendment or any other hidden hands — stop operating from the shadows.”
Aleema Khan directly questioned the motives behind the ongoing legal and political pressure on her brother. “What exactly is your issue with our brother? Just tell us what he has done to deserve this,” she said, urging for transparency.
She reiterated Imran Khan's stance that he would rather remain in prison for life than bow down. “He has made it clear — he will not compromise his principles, even if it means staying in jail forever.”
Calling for a face-to-face dialogue, she said, “We sisters are ready to sit down with you. Don’t threaten judges or members of parliament from behind closed doors. That fear is gone. No one is afraid anymore.”
Aleema also criticized the government and authorities for failing to communicate their demands clearly. “After two years, we still don’t know what you want from him. He’s standing for rule of law and democracy. Tell us — what should he give up for you to let him go?”
She concluded by inviting those in power to the negotiation table. “We are not hiding. Sit with us and talk openly. We won’t be part of any backdoor dealings.”
